NEW PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE TO TIP OFF IN THE SPRING OF 2004

Atlanta, GA – The World Basketball Association (WBA) will tip-off their inaugural season in the spring of 2004 with franchises in eight cities throughout the southeastern part of the country. The mission of the WBA is to teach, develop and expose basketball players to the NBA, NBDL, ABA, CBA and International Scouts, while providing each community an exciting brand of basketball and entertainment.

The WBA season will run through the months of April, May and June. First year franchises are in Chattanooga, TN, Elizabethton, KY, Jackson, MS, Macon, GA, Peachtree, GA, Raleigh, NC, Rome, GA, Tunica, MS.

League president and founder Leroy McMath has recognize a major void among potential professional basketball players and has created the WBA with that in mind. The league will serve as a training ground to develop professional players, coaches and personnel on and off the court.

Emphasis will be placed on fundamental development, career development, community involvement and education. “My goal is to create a marriage between professional sports and professional entertainment along with the local communities throughout the country,” stated McMath.

Serving as WBA Commissioner is one of the country’s best minds in player development Milton Barnes, who just recently served as Vice President and Head Coach of the Harlem Globetrotters. Barnes also has the distinction of serving as the General Manager and Head Coach of the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) 2001-02 Champions Greenville Groove.

“I believe this will be a great opportunity for guys to continue their careers and it is also important for us to nurture their skills on and off the court,” stated Barnes. “We believe the window of opportunity for NBA hopefuls is three years while maintaining opportunities in other leagues such as the NBDL, CBA, ABA and European Leagues.”

The goal of the WBA is to be the league players will want to play in to enhance their opportunities in basketball and beyond. The WBA will also work to be the league every professional scout, will want to observe to find their future star.   • Leroy McMath

    Founder

    McMath started the WBA in 2004, which restructured in 2015, resumed in 2018, and postponed play due to covid restrictions. Over the years, the WBA has created opportunities for young men to play professionally across the globe, including numerous players in the NBA/systems. "The Sky is the Limit"...
  • William Slaton

    Chief Financial Officer

    Slaton is an Ed.S. graduate of the American College of Education and former team owner of the Macon Blaze. Slaton has served as a Director at Herzing University and the Pacific Institute of Technology.
  • Mike "Stinger" Glenn

    Commissioner

    Micheal "Stinger" Glenn is an American former professional basketball player drafted #23 by the Chicago Bulls. Glenn was selected to the All-Century team at Southern Illinois University and was also inducted into the Missouri Valley Conference Hall of Fame.
