The Gwinnett Majic steamrolled the Franklin Knights 133-113, Saturday night at Bogan Park in Buford, Ga., to win their second straight World Basketball Association Exposure League (WBA) championship.
Gwinnett held a 33-24 lead after the opening quarter, but Franklin outscored the Majic 43-25 in the second period to take a 67-58 lead into the locker room at halftime. Gwinnett came back in the third quarter to tie the game at 91 heading into the final quarter and the Majic took control from there, outscoring Franklin 42-22 to pull away and win the title.
The Majic were led by Benjamin Puckett (6'9''-F-83, agency: NM Services, college: Clayton St.), who finished with a game-high 37 points and 10 rebounds. Adrien Borders (6'0''-G-83, college: Wofford) had 19 points and six rebounds, Michael Sloan (6'5''-G/F-84, college: Clayton St.) finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Marcus Brown pitched in 16 points and seven rebounds and Patrick Shokpeka (6'3''-G-88, college: Armstrong Atlantic) netted 14 points in the victory.
Charles Little (6'6''-F-87, college: Dayton) led Franklin with 27 points. He was followed by Myles Thrash (6'0''-G-77, college: Stillman) (22), Jerrell Houston (6'8''-F-85, college: Tennessee St.) (17) and Maurice Williams (6'2''-G-83, college: Los Medanos JC) (11) as the Knights advanced to the WBA championship game in their first season.
The WBA Exposure League serves as a training ground to develop players on and off the court. Emphasis is placed on exposure, development, community involvement, and most importantly providing an exciting brand of basketball and entertainment. Hundreds of former WBA Players have gone on to play professional basketball all over the world including the D-League and NBA.
